Captivating Story

The Mystery Tomb by Eva Pohler is hard to define in a specific category. It has suspense and mystery, it is a contemporary story with glimpses back to the past, it has romance and conflict, and it is absolutely intriguing.
The story follows Samantha Beck, a young archeologist who is searching for a lost tribe of Indian ancestors. She finds evidence of a lost tribe of Leni-Lenape in Pennsylvania. The story has many twists and turns as Samantha tries convince Tukihela, the local descendant of the tribe, to reveal the tribe's secrets to the world. There are some surprising discoveries made about the customs of the tribe and also about Tukihela's immediate family.
I really enjoyed this story and I was captivated by it. The story was well-researched and well-written. I live in Pennsylvania and many of the areas in PA and NJ that were mentioned in the book were familiar to me and they were all described accurately. As a history buff, and a history major in college, I really enjoyed the historical aspects of the story.
I definitely would recommend this book to other.

Another Great Read From Eva Pohler
By Jennifer Pierson: The Power of Three Readers
Once again Eva Pohler has written a story that kept me up late reading because I physically couldn't put it down! I really don't read mysteries in general but I believe The Mystery Tomb can't be classified just as mystery. It had romance with conflict, historical aspects, and a touch of paranormal along with mythical references on top of the mystery. I loved it!

We meet Samantha Beck, a younger archaeologist, searching for her lost Indian ancestors. She finds the evidence of her ancestors, the tribe of Leni-Lenape in Pennsylvania. After Sam and the team uncover their findings, she meets the local descendant Tukihela, who wants nothing to do with her. Samantha tries to get Tukihela to let her give a voice to the tribe, but he refuses. As the story unfolds, we meet Rebecca Nisha, mother of Tukihela, and hear her story 25 years before, along with tribe secrets.

Eva does a remarkable job of alternating and weaving the two stories together effortlessly. The Mystery Tomb has many twists and turns that will make it impossible to put down! I truly loved this book and would recommend it to everyone!

The Adventures of Tintin (Les Aventures de Tintin) is a series of comic strips created by Belgian artist Herge the pen name of Georges Remi (1907 1983). The series first appeared in French in Le Petit Vingtieme, a children's supplement to the Belgian newspaper Le Vingtieme Siecle on 10 January 1929. Later, popular additions to the cast included the brash, cynical and grumpy Captain Haddock, the bright but hearing-impaired Professor Calculus (Professeur Tournesol) and other colorful supporting characters such as the incompetent detectives Thomson and Thompson (Dupond et Dupont). Herge himself features in several of the comics as a background character; as do his assistants in some instances.
The success of the series saw the serialized strips collected into a series of albums (24 in all), spun into a successful magazine and adapted for film and theatre. The series is one of the most popular European comics of the 20th century, with translations published in over 50 languages and more than 200 million copies of the books sold to date.
The comic strip series has long been admired for its clean, expressive drawings in Herge's signature ligne claire style. Engaging, well-researched plots straddle a variety of genres: swashbuckling adventures with elements of fantasy, mysteries, political thrillers, and science fiction. The stories within the Tintin series always feature slapstick humor, accompanied in later albums by sophisticated satire, and political and cultural commentary.

About the Author
Herge, one of the most famous Belgians in the world, was a comics writer and artist. The internationally successful Adventures of Tintin are his most well-known and beloved works. Ironically, you should read the first Tintin adventure last

The value of "Tintin au Pays des Soviets" ("Tintin in the Land of the Soviets") is as much historical as it is literary since this is the first of Les Aventures de Tintin created by Hergé. The date is January 10, 1929 and in Brussels the intrepid young reporter for "Le Petit Vingtième" Tintin and his dog Milou board a train for Moscow. There Tintin spends his time denouncing the methods of the Communist Party and then avoiding attempts by the Soviet secret police to silence him for his views. By the time Tintin makes it back home word of his exploits has arrived ahead of him and he is greeted as a hero.
Today "Tintin au Pays des Soviets" constitutes something of a false start for Hergé's series. The seven volume collection of the Three-in-One series of "The Adventures of Tintin," which is probably the most common way for today's readers to get a hold of the Tintin stories, begins with the third adventures, "Tintin Au America." Both this story and "Tintin Au Congo" are left out of the "official" canon, the former because of the suspect ideology and the latter because of the implicit racism. What emerges in the other eighteen Tintin tales is more pure storytelling that takes place in a created world that bears only an allegorical relationship to the real world. Besides, Tintin does not even have his trademark tuft of hair at this point.
Consequently, Tintin fans who track down the first couple of adventures will need to take both tales with a grain of salt. Whereas the other stories tend to stand on their own, the first two are clearly dated. "Tintin au Pays des Soviets" especially requires commentary or annotation that reveals exactly what was going on in the Soviet Union in the late 1920s that Hergé and the left found necessary to attack, even in a comic book adventure. I know that Hergé was working for "Le Petit Vingtième," an anti-Communist church-run newspaper, but I also know that he also apologized for this book later in life because he had never actually visited the Soviet Union and had based his story on one book, which was apparently written for propaganda purposes.
Consequently, it is fairly safe to say that this particular Tintin adventure is really not intended for children until they are old enough to understand the politics of the time in which it was written. It might be ironic that you should read the first couple of Tintin adventures after you have read the other eighteen, but that is probably the best way to proceed.

An inditement of the cruel intellectuals of the time

Amazing how, in 1929, a comic book could reveal more truth about Bolshevik Russia, than all the hypocritical and cruel academics of the world could.
While the Western fellow travelers of the Soviet tyranny, where presenting the Soviet Union, as a utopian brave new world, Herge reveled the true hell on earth that it was (and that all Marxist-Leninist regimes have been since), through this amazing adventure, and the true villainy of the Communists and their Western backers.
Who knows how the immoral leftist academics are deceiving us today.
Moral clarity and simplicity is needed more than ever today, as the Judeo-Christian world, and our great Western civilization , is threatened by evil forces today, in new guises, and much of the intellectual and media establishment turns it around and condemns those who are fighting to sustain freedom while sanitizes devils.
And anyway , it is a great Tinitn adventure , vital to everyone's Tintin collection.

A great snapshot of a unique Native American experience

Garrod & Larimore's First Person, First Peoples is a fine collection of personal accounts of leaving home. The stories are at once unique and universal. They are expressive of an experience to which Native Americans can truly relate, and yet, set on the campus of one of America's most selective colleges, the stories are from a elite few who may be speaking of an experience that is virtually impossible to share. This is valuable as an oral history, and perhaps more importantly, as a voice of the Native American which remains too infrequently captured. Still, we must find those voices which are seldom heard, rather than continuing the habit of letting the elite culture speak for us all.

This was a truly wonderful and accessible book about Native American educational achievment. The story of Dartmouth College and its relationship to Native American education is captivating. The honesty of the students is at time heartbreaking and yet is continually inspiring.

An EMT Program/Instructor's Feedback

I have been teaching with "Prehospital Emergency Care" since the 5th edition. This edition has not only added a new chapter and updated content to reflect new practices, it has infused the text with a major slap of more advanced concept pathophysiology.

For instructors and students: the level of pathophysiology (alpha/beta, pre and afterload, SVR, epinephrine's affect on insulin, RAS, ventilation/perfusion ratio, etc...) is a slow sluggish path to wade through. The National Standards Curriculum does not require such level of specificity and most of the how and why of the pathophysiology will not change the BLS management of a patient. However, there are some questions on the NREMT that relate to these topics.

Many of the images and graphs have been updated, but are still quite repetitive.

The assessment chapter is a nightmare to get through - as it has been. New EMS students cannot digest 15+ assessment algorithms this quickly. BSI is now "Standard Precautions." There are many changes to oxygen administration.

Even with its flaws, it is still the best EMT training text out there.

The book is everything that I needed, it was brand new. The authors did a very poor job improving the book though compared to the last edition. I had hoped that they edited out the many confusing points. Over all, I passed the national reg test. Youtube does a better job explaining some of the points.

No Access Code

This doesn't come with an Access code for the MyPearson Registration and that's what I needed that's why I bought it "New" but the book was just in the box and not sealed.
