This book provides a new methodological approach to money and macroeconomics. Realizing that the abstract equilibrium models lacked descriptions of fundamental issues of a modern monetary economy, the focus of this book lies on the (stylized) balance sheets of the main actors. Money, after all, is born on the balance sheets of the central bank or commercial bank. While households and firms hold accounts at banks with deposits, banks hold an account at the central bank where deposits are called reserves. The book aims to explain how the two monetary circuits – central bank deposits and bank deposits – are intertwined. It is also shown how government spending injects money into the economy.

Modern Monetary Theory and European Macroeconomics covers both the general case and then the Eurozone specifically. A very simple macroeconomic model follows which explains the major accounting identities of macroeconomics. Using this new methodology, the Eurozone crisis is examined from a fresh perspective. It turns out that not government debt but the stagnation of private sector debt was the major economic problem and that cuts in government spending worsened the economic situation. The concluding chapters discuss what a solution to the current problems of the Eurozone must look like, with scenarios that examine a future with and without a euro.

This book provides a detailed balance sheet view of monetary and fiscal operations, with a focus on the Eurozone economy. Students, policy-makers and financial market actors will learn to assess the institutional processes that underpin a modern monetary economy, in times of boom and in times of bust.

Good plot, terrible copy

Good plot, and interesting perspectives. Unfortunately it doesn't look like the author ever proof read the final copy - missing words, incomplete sentences, even several 'continue here' notations completely disrupted the flow of the story. Shame such good work was effectively ruined by crap editing

Needs a solid proofread

I don't consider myself a grammar nazi, but with all the misspellings, grammar and punctuation errors, I just can't get into this story. Maybe I'll try back, IF it gets a solid proofread & edit. Glad I didn't pay for it.

An Almost Familiar Journey

Neil Mosspark’s novel ‘Sand Fall’ can be honestly described as hit or miss. While it excels in creating a believable and imaginative world while creating some memorable characters, it also fails to keep interest with other characters.
Sand Fall would follow the plight of several interplanetary settlers who had left a ruinous Earth to hopefully settle on the planet Ceres. However, due to a gravitational anomaly, their ship is brought down to a devastating crash on a desolate desert world that is the essence of ‘survival of the fittest’. Throughout the novel Neil Mosspark would effectively world build this hostile environment with character recollections of previous species attempts to colonize the planet as well as how some of the creatures survive in their environment. It would lead the reader to believe that this could be an actual world where you would have to kill others to survive.
When it came to the characters, I can honestly say that some of them were more memorable than others. The three characters that stood out to me the most would consist of the following; Adam, the pilot of the doomed ship who would soon become controlled by a parasitic centipede, Emmett who is one of the guards who becomes more hostile as time goes on, and Liege, a sentient machine and scavenger who has been on the planet for several hundred cycles and wants more than anything to get off of the planet. To me, these characters are the most fleshed out and believable of the entire story. I can actually imagine the centipede running down the length of Adam’s body as it slowly learns human sentiment and I can imagine Liege walking from wreckage to wreckage as he looks for power sources to keep him alive. But other characters such as Tricia and Anvi would become less memorable and almost forgettable as the story went on. I would applaud Neil’s attempts to create a cohesive story that showed the cruelty of this world, but I honestly feel that he tried to have too many characters in this novel. Each of these characters could have had an entire novel or at least an extended novella about their time on the planet, but it is thrown together into a literary blender where some tastes are stronger than others.
The story as scantly mentioned before would be that the survivors of this ship have to try to reach a habitat that was ejected from their ship in order to survive their hostile environment. They will have to contend with not only scorching heat and a lack of resources, but dangerous creatures that are more than willing to eat anything, even each other. This kind of story has been done before several times and to say that Neil had given the story a different take on a commonly seen trope would be a half truth. While some ideas are original, it feels too familiar to other novels and it plays out almost too safely to the extent that it is almost boring at times. Some moments like Emmet killing another survivor in the middle of the night could have been seen pages ahead of time. It would have been more interesting if the author had decided to include other concepts such as delirium.
Another issue that I had found early on in the story is that there were grammatical errors throughout the novel that proved to be distracting. I would have to recommend that he goes through it again or have someone else go through it to reduce the amount of errors.
I would have to congratulate Neil Mosspark for his ambitious effort he took in writing Sand Fall and its 327 pages, but it could have been improved. This book felt like it was lingering too much within its comfort zone without a second thought of trying something risky. I would like to see Neil Mosspark’s future work and how he progresses as a writer, but he has some things to learn.

During my first weeks in college in America, I made desperate phone calls to my mother begging for recipes and even just wanting to know how to cook plain rice, as you might also have done. Alas, while my mother was an excellent cook, she was no expert in imparting cooking instruction over the phone or even in writing. Trying to follow her directions, I nearly killed myself, not to mention many of my friends. But I did eventually learn to cook well with the help of family, friends, and much more effective in-person lessons from my mother when she would come to visit. Okay, the fact is that this is an excellent cookbook. That's it. I just made the vegetable potato dish, I forget the name at the moment. But it came out perfectly by following the very simple directions. Why aren't all cookbooks this clear and lucid? No one knows. Most people are too stupid to be simple, I guess. You will actually use this cookbook, unlike all the other cookbooks sitting around your house. Brilliant.

This is *real* south-Asian food, and it's sublime.

I've always loved food from this region, but hadn't had much success in cooking it, until now. I've cooked a number of dishes from this cookbook so far, and have been uniformly thrilled with the results.

The key to its success is down to two factors. First, the clarity of the instructions. It's very hard to go wrong if you pay attention. And second, the author doesn't compromise on ingredients. If a particular spice is needed, he'll tell you, and it is completely worth hunting it down. If you're living in the West, you mightn't find it in your local supermarket, but you will find it at an Indian grocer or online, and you must. It makes the difference between the one-dimensional flavours of what passes for south-Asian food in many cookbooks, and the deep, rich and complex tastes of the real thing.

Some Cookbooks Are Frighteningly Lucid, and Those Are The Ones To Buy

Have you read some North Indian recipes and thought: I cannot possibly follow these instructions, no matter how badly I want to eat this dish. That's a basic and very disappointing experience in the life of a cook at any level of skill, and with regard to this repertoire, it never has to happen to you again.

The recipes of Abbas Raza are hugely lucid, and they assume you are wholly unfamiliar with North Indian food prep. As Abbas himself once was -- he had grown up eating it in Karachi, but could not, as a homesick graduate student, cook a bit of it. It took him many years to achieve his current brilliance as a cook. He has high standards and he met them. You will benefit right away.

The recipes I've tried have been marvelous additions to my repertoire, and confidence inspiring too. If you want to dazzle your friends with the taste of the Mughal Empire, you can do that now. You can have only made hot dogs before, but these recipes will see you through. Buy the book -- start living in a bigger world!

EXCELLENT CORE REVIEW

As an almost graduating 4th year who has seen the Core exam and been pimped for 4 years, this is a must read for all radiology residents. Excellent review of salient points and popular pimp questions. Seems to be the needed "depth" of review as well. If I needed more info, I found a corresponding radiographics article or looked stuff up from the reference sections. It's meant to be a review, not a text.

Diagrams are awesome and a breath of fresh air. Tons of images also assist with the pertinent facts. While I would not consider this a replacement for Brant and Helms, or primer, it is very new and has many things that are up and coming that I haven't necessarily found in the other two books.

I also find it interesting that many of my staff like the looks of it and are buying it as a review text themselves. Definitely worth the money. I would buy again in a heartbeat

Good book to have. I consider it an excellent backbone for residency and excellent for pre exam preparation.
I admire the work done in it. I liked the style as opposed to Primer. This book has extensive diagrams and boxes.

Great book! As someone who just found out they passed the core exam I thought this book was a SOLID review. I read it while I was studying before I went into more depth on each subject and found it was great. Then the four days before the test it was all I did and I reread (skimmed) the entire book. Helped put things into their proper places in my head before the test. I also wish I had this book as a first year because a lot of the stuff is very basic and having it all organized neatly in one book is great. I loved having the hard copy of the book and even though it was huge I carried it around with my for weeks while I was studying. I would HIGHLY recommend this.

Getting Along Famously has a lot going for it, from the stylish book jacket with its clever title to wonderful photos and glossy pages (all 193 of them). The subtitle, A Celebration of Friendship, sets the pace for what is to come. In her introduction, author Melissa Hellstern, writes: "Men may fix things, but women fix each other." Thus, we are led to the main focus of the book: stories of the friendships between twelve famous women that endured through divorce, rivalry, miscarriages, other struggles, until, in some cases, the death of one. Hellstern highlights friends of varying ages, talents, and dispositions, including a remarkable mother/daughter bond that thrives despite many years of strife.

The force that guides all these relationships is the women's ability to laugh at themselves. This is illustrated in an incident with Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance during the filming of their television show. The two have a spat on the set and stop talking to each other for a full day until just before show time, when Lucy breaks the silence to coach Vance for an upcoming scene. Vance asks: "Why didn't you say so before?" Lucy replies: "We weren't speaking, and I'd be damned if I'd tell you!"

Interspersed within the text are brief vignettes of other well-known friends that I found distracting, although, some readers may welcome the break. Inspiring and easier to digest are the quotations scattered throughout the chapters like handfuls of confetti.

Hellstern's book prompts me to examine my own friendships to see whether they need repair, attention, or simply gratitude. This is an enjoyable read about women we know as celebrities, but thanks to Getting Along Famously, we see them as friends.

Heart-warming and Funny!

This book displays beautiful portraits of famous friends and stories of their friendships. It is uniquely crafted to allow the reader to find herself and her "BFF" in one of the stories.

I was given this book for a birthday present by my best friend, and I could not have asked for a better gift! The focus is mainly how the pairs became friends and remained friends throughout their careers and various life experiences. Among those highlighted are Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance, Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren, and Coco Chanel and Misia Sert.

Their stories reveal their mutual trust, personality differences, and bonds that transcend the grave. So, whether you are sharing pasta or changing the world, you will probably end up having a conversation about Metamucil, lol. You'll have to read the book to get that one.

great book, cover is too flimsy!

The book is nice, well written. However, beware, the cover damages very easily and I mean super easily. I am usually very careful with my books, so I can sell them as new next semester, this one went from New to Acceptable in a semester. Get some gift wrapping paper or something on it, so it doesn't wear and tear as much.

ALAN CLEMENTS is a world dharma teacher, performing artist, human rights activist, and the founder of the World Dharma vision. As one of the first Westerners to ordain as a Buddhist monk in Burma, he lived in a monastery for many years training in Buddhist psychology and mindfulness meditation. A Manifesto of Liberation

This is an extraordinary book. It is a book of inspiration, power, beauty, and depth. Each chapter reminds us not only of the great challenges of living an authentic life, but also Alan Clement's words also remind us that we are that power, that transformative energy, that capacity to live with utter integrity as ourselves with the boldness of what makes us unique. This book is a vivid invitation to live the life we are meant to live, based on values that we will refuse to place into the trash-heap, as our corporate and religious bosses might demand we do. Read this book and then live it. That is liberation and that is your truth.

Alan Clements,once again, has written another work of inspiration that is sure to stir your soul to the roots. He lights the fire of hope and activism within the person, by touching on the core of humanism throughout this book. His life's journey has been profound, from the divine to the horrific, all of which he draws on to write this compassionate and insightful compilation of wisdom. Thank you Alan!
