Simplicity with the gentle, happy, elegant Tucci style and spirit

Recipes offered in this book are solid, simple, tasty recipes offered by an actor you just have to love. Despite the simplicity, there are a lot of excellent recipes to be found in this book. And maybe a lot of the excellence stems from the fact that they are so simple.
Plenty of pretty pictures, but not necessarily one for each recipe. There are a lot of pictures of the actor in action (cooking, that is), plus pictures of his wife and his children. It makes for an interesting read, in addition to a good volume of recipes to keep close at hand. Included are his recipes, family recipes, friends’ recipes, some from favorite or memorable restaurants.
There are some new ingredients for me to get to know: Puntarella, trofiette, liquid aminos, nutritional yeast, for example.
There might be a few gripes from less experienced cooks: Instructions and ingredient lists are sometimes too brief: “Flip or turn the frittata and cook for a minute more.” Yeah, tell that to a cook making their first frittata….. Or ingredients that don’t explain what they are, or don’t give size: “Three zucchini”; one “large” pompano, sea bass, grouper or red snapper, (Wow, there is a lot of leeway there!); puntarella, Mostarda di Frutta, (I had to do internet searches on those two); “add whatever you like” to a frittata; okay, how much can I add before it won’t hold together? But those things are not enough to affect my rating on the book.
While the recipes are simple,they are definitely not meager, and the results are luscious. There are some not-too-simple recipes included, too. An experienced home cook probably will have seen many of these recipes in some shape or form many times before, but the fact that they are gathered together in one book, and done with Tucci style, is a real draw. I'm liking this book quite a lot!
There are not only Italian dishes, but also British (thanks to his wife Felicity nee Blunt).
My 'odds and ends' notes:
--Plenty of seafood recipes, beautiful meat dishes, classic pasta and rice dishes, interesting techniques.
--Some odd inclusions: Baked beans made with a 32-ounce can of Bush’s, for example.
--Some recipes in the “sides” chapter seem a bit too basic: Greens with olive oil, garlic, red pepper flakes; grilled spring onions with olive oil and salt; fried green tomatoes; polenta; mashed potatoes; roasted tomatoes; roasted cauliflower slices.
--The dessert chapter is full of goodness, but I think it is probably the weakest chapter. The Tucci adults claim that they are not much into sweets.

I love cookbooks, especially when I think there’s a chance I can prepare something within its pages. That’s the case with Actor/Foodie, Stanley Tucci’s new cookbook, THE TUCCI TABLE: Cooking With Family and Friends(Gallery Books). This time he and his wife, British actress, Felicity Blunt are sharing their love of food and have combined recipes they’ve collected over the years. We get to meet Stanley and his beautiful wife, as well as children Isabel, Nicolo and Camilla. Inside are also 100 vibrant photographs, many dramatic photos of curated cuisine and artistic photos you’d expect to see in someone’s home.
The book is user friendly, arranged by chapters to guide you logically: equipment you will need, soups & salads, chicchetti (small plates), pasta/rice/grains, fish/seafoods, meat/fowl, sides, desserts and basics such as chicken stock and marinara sauce.
Not one to miss out on all the fun, I decided to make one of the pasta dishes, uova da ravioli – spinach ravioli. I’m not a Chef but I can follow directions and I was pretty satisfied with the way my dish turned out. And so was the special someone I shared it with. Number one rule of cooking? Sharing! I had to refer to the basics section for both the pasta dough and dessert when I made the blueberry pie. There’s no better time than now to use seasonal fresh blueberries and the recipe for the dough? DELISH! YUMMY!
That’s what I loved about using Tucci’s cookbook, it invited me to delve in. It didn’t intimidate. The recipes were complimented with warm interesting stories, so I felt as if I was sitting down to the table for a meal with family.

Fantastic REAL meals that anyone can make.

I’m a huge fan of Stanley Tucci’s so it came as no surprise that the cookbook bearing his name was just as fabulous as the man himself.
This fantastic cook book is all about being with family and friends and cooking some fanfreakingtastic food too! While reading these recipes I just wanted to jump up and go cook! I normally like to get a sense of the meals prior to starting but my mouth was watering from the yumminess emanating from these pages.
There are many, many different recipes too. Starting with different soups and salads like tomato soup and fried calamari and moving to fish and meats of all sorts. There are so many recipes and even ingredients that I have not tried before, like Pissaladiere and the sunchoke but Stanley Tucci makes them feel accessible and easy to do. Not only easy but fun! I already made the tomato soup and my hubby could not get enough. I have a feeling many of the recipes will be like this.
There are also tips from Stanley Tucci throughout the book. Little tidbits that you can add into your cooking or not. The tips went well with the thoughts and the recipes and really added an essence of his ideas into the already wonderful cookbook.
He also throws twists into recipes that we’ve all eaten before like tuna salad, potato salad, and shepherd’s pie.
Needless to say, I cannot wait to start cooking more. I already plan to do Beef Wellington for Christmas this year but I’m planning many, many meals from this before then! The hubby also looked through and has his own picks and is excited for the Beef Wellington. Just that fact that I feel like I can do it after reading this should say something. Now I want to go get his other cookbook.
In short: Get this for every cook on your holiday list. They will love it and you!
