Don't Go Looking for the Fortune at the Base of the Pyramid; Co-Create It

There is a fortune at the Base of the Pyramid--but don't go to find it, go to co-create it. That’s the message Ted London delivers in this book, and it's exactly the right message.
It's been 15 minutes see CK Prahalad sent companies searching for the fortune. Unfortunately, companies’ efforts to tap these opportunities have yielded varied results. London affirms that the promise remains intact. The opportunity to develop sustainable, scalable impact enterprises still exists, but only with the people at the Base of the Pyramid. If corporate leaders needed a practical How-to-Guide, based on the breakthrough inquiry of early pioneers, London delivers just that in an understandable, systematic way.
London proposes a three cornerstone approach, moving beyond inspirational stories to distill them into both lessons learned and frameworks that provide a pathway for success and reduce risks. London encourages business leaders to embrace new business models that emphasize on-going innovation over execution, recommending that they assume the same responsibility for market creation as they do for developing their own enterprises. His “C-E-I” framework, to co-create, innovate, and embed, helps leaders to think through the phases discretely, while also keeping the end in mind. His distinction between ‘pilot’ and ‘project’ is particularly freeing, setting a clear expectation for an appropriately measured learning phase which is distinctive from the launch of an operating program.

Interesting blend of theory and tools

Interesting book about the BoP that combines theory, real life experiences, and several tools to organice thinking around BoP enterprises and how to make them work. The framework is pretty comprehensive and I found the concept of mutual co-creation very pertinent and well-developed. It's a fun and easy read and an interesting resource to help you think strategically about how to do good and use business to leverage and scale your impact.
