Unforgettable

I have read 100's of P&P variations. This story easily makes my Top 10 list.
It has adult themes and a few adult scenes. If you have a problem with that, then this story is not right for you. But if you like to read stories that will play in your mind for days after you've read them, then this is exactly the story you might enjoy.
In the story, Mr. Bennet dies unexpectedly the week of the Meryton assembly, leaving the Bennet family homeless and practically destitute. Bingley doesn't get to know his angel, and Darcy doesn't meet his Lizzy. There is no time spent at Netherfield. The Netherfield residents return to London, and Jane and Elizabeth find employment (Jane as a governess, Lizzy as a lady's companion) to make it possible for their mother and their younger sisters to maintain a modest residence in Meryton.
Darcy, never having met Elizabeth, travels to Rosings and decides he need not postpone the inevitable marriage to his cousin.
Elizabeth receives word that Wickham is demanding an obscene amount of money to marry Lydia. Knowing the fate of her sisters if the wedding doesn't take place, Elizabeth answers an ad she's read in the paper -- she agrees to have the child of a man who desperately wants a child, an heir, of his own. Elizabeth's motivations are simple: ease her guilt and take this second chance to save her family. Her first had come with the opportunity to marry Mr. Collins -- an opportunity she had wholeheartedly rejected.
Mrs. Santarsiero brilliantly takes us through the rough water of this story, and I found myself touched by Elizabeth's plight and Darcy's loneliness and ultimate sorrow. I think the author did a credible job of maintaining the canon character of both Elizabeth and Darcy. It's easy to say that she never would have done this or he never would have done that. But the circumstances in which they found themselves make this seem totally possible. Elizabeth is still the independent, prejudiced spitfire we know and love; Darcy is still the proud man with everything who realizes he has nothing. He still becomes a better man because of Elizabeth.
The author develops her characters and exposes their secrets as we see them interact with each other.
The writing is beautiful. The plot is well-developed. The ending is satisfying. The story is as perfect as the book cover.
I highly recommend this book.

One of the best I've read

Ms. Santarsiero's Thursday's Child is one of the best Pride and Prejudice variations I've read in some time. It has a unique plot twist that will have you on the edge of your seat waiting to see how the storyline plays out as the events of a tragedy unfold into a beautiful love story that is timeless. One woman in desperation to save her family makes a bargain with a gentleman equally desperate to have the one thing he cannot have. Both are very good and principled people but heartbreak and tragedy have driven them to where they meet and sign the contract that will forever change their destiny. Neither expect the complications that follow--nor do they expect to find love, but that is exactly what happens. And then there is the third character in the triangle. Your heart will break for her as you learn her secret. Thursday's Child is a story I will keep forever. I have both the Kindle and the book.

Terrific telling of Elizabeth and Darcy!

I loved this book and I can easily tell you why... the author borrowed the plot of the movie "Firelight", and created a beautiful adaptation of Pride and Prejudice. The love scenes were beautiful, the developing relationship between our two main characters was wonderfully told, and we still had the charming Colonel Fitzwilliam and dastardly Caroline to pep up the plot. This a great P&P variation, and one that I will gladly read again and again. I hope this author is hard at work on a sequel.CMB
