Mientras escribe su carta suicida, en su último destino, en un edificio okupa en el barrio del Albaicín, su devenir toma un giro inesperado. En la lucha entre dejarlo todo o quedarse para afrontar su vida, sus reflexiones empiezan a dar otra forma a su condición humana: la realidad del hombre solo se saborea en una plataforma hecha estrictamente para la ficción. Los recuerdos de Mauricio empiezan desde una temprana edad en Perú; criado en una familia de clase media burguesa, narra sus conflictos familiares, la violencia doméstica que sufre su hermana por su madre, su experiencia con las drogas, sexualidad, clasismo, discriminación, racismo y otros temas sociales que lo llevarán a una reflexión profunda nunca antes saboreada. La nostálgica convivencia con sus empleadas domesticas indígenas, desde niño hasta la adolescencia, le ha abierto los ojos sobre la injusticia social en Perú, al igual que la destrucción del ecosistema de su ciudad natal por parte de la corporación minera en la que trabaja su padre. Mauricio recuerda el cambio fructífero que tiene su familia cuando se mudan todos a Estados Unidos, apenas de adolescente, dejando atrás los fantasmas del pasado en Perú; pero se dará cuenta de que, ya de adulto y después de vivir muchos años en Estados Unidos, tendría otra lucha constante: su identidad.
